Captain Phillips is a multi-layered examination of the abduction in 2009 of U.S. container ship Maersk Alabama by a crew of Somali pirates. This is - by director Paul Greengrasss special lens - at the same time a chilling thriller, and a complex portrait of the many effects of globalization. The film focuses on the relationship between the commander Alabama Captain Richard Phillips (two-time Academy Award ® winner Tom Hanks), and Somalia pirate captain, Muse (Barkhad Abdi), which takes him hostage. Phillips and Muse are set on a collision course unstoppable when Muse and crew of his ship Phillips target unarmed impasse that followed, 145 miles off the Somali coast, the two men will be mëshirëne forces beyond their control.
